It was a phone call — one that every parent dreads — that gave rise to Hart Mobility.

Andrew Hart, a successful entrepreneur, who at the time co-owned a prosperous international business, received word that his two teenage sons were badly injured in a car accident. His eldest son wasn’t expected to live, but did and later inspired the birth of Hart Mobility, a leading premium home healthcare company.

Seeing his son face new challenges daily made Andy determined to find products that made his son’s life better, easier and safer. He sold his business interests and devoted himself fulltime to this quest and to take care of his family.

His search led him to Dr. Geoff Fernie, a gifted researcher who led cutting edge research and development teams at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute and the Center for Studies in Aging, part of Sunnybrook and Women’s College Health Science Centre, Toronto’s foremost academic hospital.

Being an engineer, Andy understood and admired the teams’ product ideas, which were based on leading research and science.

But as an experienced business person Andy thought it was unlikely that many of these products would make it into the lives of the people they were designed to help — commercializing new products and taking them to market is an expense and time-consuming venture.

It was then that Andy decided to lend his business savvy and design sense. Recognizing that the development teams were having trouble finding a product manufacturer, Andy volunteered to help. When the teams had trouble finding a distributor, Andy decided to open a small distribution company. The seeds of Hart Mobility were sown.

Today, Hart Mobility searches the world over to find, develop and bring to market superior home healthcare products that give individuals and caregivers more safety, confidence and dignity.
